Black Girl Magic

Hi there!

Black history month is upon us and confession: I listened to nothing but Solange and Beyoncé the entire time I worked on this issue, which I am honored to dedicate to black girls and women everywhere. To be honest, we are completely killing it.

I think this issue is one of my favorites so far! It is overflowing with Black Girl Magic. For those not familiar with the phrase, black girl magic was created by CaShawn Thompson to “celebrate the beauty, power and resilience of black women.” (Julee Wilson for Huffington Post). We interviewed four of our fave black girl bosses to see how they describe black girl magic! We also have a piece written by Karenicholle focusing on black women in politics and a piece by Arionna Stanley that completely sums up our general frustrations with our 45th President. le sigh ALSO! There is a link to a podcast episode I recorded with Lauren from Grit and Glitter where I talk all things life, girl boss, and SofE!

Additionally, I want to use this post to share ways to re-up on your magic when you are feeling down or need a boost.
From Music:
-Beyonce
-Solange
-NAO
-Lauryn Hill
-etc. this list goes on and on
From Books:
-Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston

-Americanah, by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
-Year of Yes, by Shonda Rhimes
